Most important note is that the pipes are 8″ INCLUDING the threads. As other reviews state, the pipes come covered in grease. They are heavy. They are grayish, not black. The pipe shaft is extremely smooth but the threads have burrs, so be careful while cleaning. Speaking of cleaning, use a lint free cloth with mineral spirits to remove the grease.

If you don’t use lint free, the fuzz will catch on the burrs and it is pretty impossible to get off if you’re going to paint the pipes. Doesn’t matter if you aren’t going to paint. For paint, if you want a cast iron look, use Rustoleum textured black spray paint.

I am really happy with the results!”

“I’ve done some projects by using the pipe purchased from big box stores. Now that I’ve discovered the Amazon supply, I will never go back. This stiff is WAY cheaper than what you will get locally.

Now, to be fair, the stuff in the stores is meant to be used as designed, for plumbing. Once you break way from that need, the cost to manufacture and produce these items goes WAY down, which equals a much lower price point for the end user.

I started with one main project, but since have branched to several different DIY projects and this stuff works great. I used 1″ pipe to make a handrail for the stairs, 1″ pipe for my gym and hanging weights, 1/2″ for shelves and miscellaneous pieces, and have some upcoming plans using 3/4″.

“I am a married woman with 3 kiddos and while I love to rely on my husband for many things, I also love feeling capable, handy and useful too. I purchased this item because I LOVE the industrial style shelving and curtain rods and I’m trying to stick with a theme while decorating our first home as new homeowners.

That being said, I’m also on a strict budget, so I’m always looking for quality products at a reasonable price point. This item was exactly that! The quality is sturdy and I think it will last a long time, the look is exactly what I wanted and truly goes with my theme I’m shooting for.

The ONLY downside I feel there could be improvement on is the finish. It is a bit more textured than what I thought it would be and so when I tried to put the curtains straight on the rod, I realized it would not slide easily and would be more hassle than what I wanted to deal with. Fairly easy fix by making an additional purchase of the curtain holders with the rings I could slide on the rod instead. Works just fine and still utilizes the look I’m going for.

Again, the texture of the curtain rod does slightly interfere with the ability to have the curtain rings slide smoothly along the rod, but again, not a big deal.

Overall I do love this product and would ABSOLUTELY buy again and recommend to others looking for this style rod. Just make sure you either get curtains with a larger opening to slide the curtains directly on the rod OR also purchase the rings with the clips to attach the curtains to.

One more thing, being the woman I am wanting to feel like I also am capable of fixing and/or installing things within our home, I was easily able to properly and securely install this curtain rod above the window all on my own without the need to ask my hard working husband for assistance!

Originally, I went to the “big box” hardware store to purchase plumbing hardware to accomplish the same look myself. The store was out of black 1″x 5ft. plumbing pipe, and I didn’t feel like running from store to store looking for all the pieces needed to put it together. I’m soooo thankful the big box store came up short.

The curtain rod package came complete and was well packaged. The rod and bracket have a little heft to them, and don’t feel as flimsy as some rods I’ve ordered previously.

I’m a bit handy with with tools and measuring, so I had this up within half an hour, and that’s while taking my time and watching tv. The main negative would be the supplied screws, which are thin and seem fragile.

I used my own screws and the brackets are holding solid against the wall.

For reference, I’m using these to hold up (2) 62″x95″ heavy duty blackout curtains I also purchased on Amazon. The rod looks great and no complaints so far!”

But, the instructions are as basic as they come. And, it should be an easy, straightforward project. But, some tips would have been nice.

For instance, whatever length you buy, know that the length only refers to the rod & not the curved joint pieces that you are probably including in your measurements.

Or, it does include them but you probably aren’t. Its the opposite of whatever you are doing. I bought the 48 to 84″ because I was planning on 49 inches.

My civil engineer husband checked my math & concurred but neither of us realized the impact of the curved joint. We hung the brackets 49 inches apart only to realize that the rod, at its smallest length (48″) was still too big. It’s not a huge deal.

But, it does mean extra work because you will have to take them down, redo the math & rehang.

You may also want to fill in the screw and anchor holes to class up the room but that is a personal choice, of course. Oh, and I think the instructions mention the middle bracket but, just in case, you will slide that onto the rod and connect that to the wall last.

Also, there’s no advice on the rings to hold the curtains if you decide to go that route. The 1.5 inch rings will fit the rod beautifully but absolutely will not go over the curved joint.

So, if you are buying these rods for the blackout potential AND you are going to hang your curtains with the rings (and, you should if you don’t want to disassemble the whole thing whenever you want to wash the curtains), then you need rings that will go over the rod AND the joint. It just never occurred to me that the joint would be so much bigger.

All that being said, I really do love them. Once the fiasco with the first rod was fixed, the rest went much more smoothly. They seem durable. I had almost no chipping (minus one barely noticeable spot across three rods).

The screws & anchors worked as they were supposed to but we had backups ready. Again, just triple check the details and the math and you will love these. – Christi Miller

“I bought this sturdy industrial-look curtain rod for an 8 ft. wide opening for a huge tub/double shower. The attractive industrial-looing end brackets were 2 pieces that I screwed together by hand in less than a minute.

The rod came with many long black screws. We were easily able to attach the industrial looking bronze end brackets to the wood beam above the opening with some of the black screws using a drill with a screwdriver end on it.

Then the adjustable, telescoping style rod clicked into it. There was a way the telescoping rod turned to lock in the size we wanted. The whole thing was installed in minutes. There are 3 curtains with rings attached to it, and there is no bending of the metal rod at all. It is sturdy and attractive. I bought 24 large bronze-colored curtain rings on Amazon that were used.

Update:

After installing all the bars to reach the full 84-inches, I added my fairly thick blackout curtains. Moments after mounting, I noticed a slight flex in the bar. I double-checked to make sure that all the extension bars were properly and securely attached but this will resulted in a bit of flex.

While the bar was able to hold the curtains, the bit of flex made me uneasy which resulted in my removing them and going with another product.

If there was some support towards the center of the bar, I feel there would have been no flex, but as the bar was not designed this way I didn’t have a lot of trust in it long term.

For regular blackout curtains these may work, but I would not use them for heavy duty or heavier curtains. – Patrick Frison

We have a 6 month old puppy who is around 75 lbs, German shepherd, malamute, and husky mix. He tore down every single rod I tried to use, along with the cats, my curtain looks quite old but is new ????. I bought these for the 2 windows they seem to go for, to see what’s going on outside.
